SUMMARY

The Admitting Nurse manages the patient/resident admission process (including assessment, documentation, and initial plan of care. Orients patient/family to organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Completes initial history and assessment tools including but not limited to the nursing admission

    assessments elopement risk assessment, side rail assessment, pressure ulcer risk assessment, fall risk

    assessment, pain assessment, restraint assessment, bowel and bladder assessment; self-administration of medications.

  • Develops and implements an interim plan of nursing care.

  • Supervises LPNs, nursing assistants and health service aides in the provision of patient/resident care.

  • Accurately transcribes and implements authorized healthcare professional's orders, including but not limited to reconciliation and ordering of medications, supplies, treatments, and diagnostics. Communicates report and further follow-up required to next nurse assigned to care for patient/resident prior to leaving shift.

  • Documents accurate ICD-9 diagnoses/procedures in admissions module of computer system.

  • Advocates for patients/patient/residents. Provides and documents patient/resident/family orientation and education.

    Education and/or Experience

    Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Knowledge of nursing regulations governing long-term care.

    Computer Skills

    Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Current license as RN in the state of Illinois/Indiana in good standing with the Department of Professional Regulations. Certification in CPR.
