Supervisor, Merchandise Warehouse

In support of the Society's goals, the Supervisor, Merchandise Warehouse Stockperson (temporary) assures efficient operations and high-quality customer service in the merchandise warehouse so that merchandise is received, inventoried, tracked, and distributed to various merchandise locations and available for sale to guests. In doing so, you will make use of your prior warehouse experience as you supervise specific areas as assigned, including receiving merchandise, order processing for store/stand deliveries, maintenance of warehouse random-bin system in conjunction with the TAM system, and overall warehouse maintenance. Making use of your prior supervisory experience, you will supervise the off-site warehouse operation and, on occasion or on a temporary basis, supervise the entire warehouse operation, as needed in Warehouse Manager's absence. You will also draw upon your previous experience to assure established warehouse procedures are followed to insure accuracy and efficiency is maintained throughout the execution of all warehouse duties, perform data entry of documentation of received merchandise and transfer documentation into the TAM system in a timely and efficient manner. Prior experience operating a fork lift and pallet jack is preferred as you will be responsible for supervising the loading and identifying of orders for shipping to the stands to maintain safety and accuracy in addition to driving and operating various warehouse vehicles including golf carts, forklifts, and pick-up, stake-body, and tailgate trucks in a safe and efficient manner. As the supervisor, you will alert management to operational problems and suggest possible solutions as necessary; and you will work closely with Inventory Control Department, purchasing office, and merchandise location managers to resolve merchandise discrepancies accurately and efficiently. Under supervision, you will assist in special events by providing requested support, supplies and equipment. Furthermore, you will perform the duties of subordinate seasonal warehouse staff such as pricing, pulling and delivering orders, as necessary, for the efficient operation of the warehouse and as requested by management staff.

Position Requirements and Specifications
Brookfield Zoo is open every day of the year including weekends and holidays. We are seeking individuals that are able to work a flexible schedule that would include working weekend days (when we are busiest) as well as regular week days. The work shifts are usually from 4 to 8 hours in length generally during the hours that Brookfield Zoo is open. The work schedule may start as early as 8:00 a.m. and end as late as 7:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. on weekends and for special events). Due to the driving requirement, a valid driver's license is required and you must be at least 18 years of age for this position.

This is a temporary position. Starting wage: $10.25 per hour.

The requirements for this position include:


  • High School graduate or (GED) equivalent preferred.

  • One year previous warehouse experience required.

  • One year previous supervisory experience required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Good communications and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be conscientious, responsible, and reliable.

  • Eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Must be reliable and neat.

  • Must be flexible and organized.

  • Experience operating a fork lift and pallet jack preferred.

  • Basic computer skills required. General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook desired.

  • Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience. Multi-lingual ability and Spanish fluency a plus.

  • Valid driver's license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.

  • One or more of the following licensures may be required: Valid "C" or "B" (CDL) Driver's License.

  • Valid medical authorization card required for positions that are responsible for operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle.

  • Ability and willingness to work non-standard hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
