The Accounting Manager is responsible for budgeting, financial accounting, financial and asset controls, receivable, payables, and payroll. This position assures that other managers and the Board of Safer have timely and accurate information with which to make decisions. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for supervising (coaching and development) of all Accounting Department employees.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the AVP-Accounting in administering Safer’s financial and administrative operations
  • Provides supervision, direction and coaching to members of the Accounting Department
  • Provides oversight to the monthly-closing activities, preparation of general ledger journal entries, schedules and account reconciliations for review and approval by the AVP-Accounting
  • Oversees the preparation of Financial Statements and other reporting needs as determined by the needs of the organization
  • Reviews and authorizes daily cash receipts and bank deposits according to established procedures
  • Coordinates the daily adjustments of refunds, credits, transfers, etc., to ensure the accuracy of cash accounts
  • Ensures established financial policies and procedures are properly followed by assigned staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned by AVP-Finance and/or CFO/VP-Finance

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices and ability to apply established accounting methods
  • Demonstrated and successful supervision of accounting functions and staff
  • Ability to work well under pressure, determine priorities that produce results and meet established deadlines
  • Demonstrated computer skills and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer service focus
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with many types of people at different levels of the organization as well as external partners

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting 
  • 4 years’ experience in related field or appropriate combination of education/experience 
  • 3-4 years’ successful supervisory experience
