Junior Cashier - Cash Control / Cash Vault (Part-Time)

As Junior Cashier - Cash Control / Cash Vault (Part-Time), you will assist with the management of staff and operations in Cash Control and South Gate Reception areas and verifying that specific procedures are followed. This includes providing instruction to assigned employees as necessary, monitoring park cash processing procedures, and recommending cash handling procedural changes. This is a part-time position.

The primary duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • Responsible and accountable for all monies received, stored, and distributed to or by the Cash Control Department. Under minimal supervision and following established procedures, open and close cash vault, monitor seasonal employee access to vault area and, in cooperation with Public Safety, ensure the security and accuracy of asset handling, security, and alarm systems. Investigate and report any significant discrepancies to the Society's Controller and Public Safety immediately.
  • Prepare pre-counted cash bags for distribution to cash centers, and maintain daily inventory of bags distributed and returned. Count, verify and post to bank deposit total revenues on a daily basis. Review and verify reported balances, register tapes over/under ring sheets and inventory summary on a daily basis. Maintain and operate petty cash window drawer. Review and approve expense advance requests and petty cash tickets, and balance drawer daily. Using appropriate and secure means, transfer receipts in a timely manner to bank for deposit. Using a computerized system, post verified receipts totals and admission levels to the revenue report. Generate required reports to provide daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly summaries.
  • Maintain cash vault with adequate supply of cash and change to meet operating needs. Balance vault daily. Draw upon or deposit to appropriate cash account, with Controller approval, to maintain vault at adequate levels. Inventory and balance specific components of vault stock, including but not limited to, backup cash bags, no less than weekly.
  • Maintain facilities, supplies, and equipment in a secure and functional manner, including, but not limited to, machinery, adherence to regular maintenance schedules, in conformance with manufacturer's recommendations, establish long-term equipment requirements.
  • Provide assistance at South Gate Reception when needed. Tasks include, but are not limited to, answer and respond to radio and telephone calls, provide access control into the park and the Administration Building, communicate with guests and provide requested zoo information, and process outgoing mail as required by the US Postal Service.


Position Requirements and Specifications
The requirements for this position include the following:


  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of training and/or experience required.

  • Must be able to deliver the highest level of customer service to internal customers and guests.

  • Must be proficient at using ten-key adding machine.

  • Must have an eye for accuracy, completeness, and detail.

  • Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.

The preferred/desirable qualifications include:


  • Minimum one year experience in bookkeeping, accounting, financial recordkeeping or cash settlement experience preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred.

  • Valid Illinois driver's license.

  • Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.

Additional information:
This is a part-time position for which annual hours are not to exceed 1,475. This position does require the ability to work rotating weekends, evening, and holidays as assigned.
