Marketing Communications Coordinator

Since the opening of Brookfield Zoo in 1934, the Society has had an international reputation for taking a cutting-edge role in animal care and conservation of the natural world. The Marketing Communications Coordinator contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society and its financial sustainability by raising awareness and helping to generate increased attendance accomplished through the development and execution of an effective outreach program with communities, organization, malls, and sports partners.

As the Marketing Communications Coordinator, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Managing the marketing outreach program, including developing and executing an outreach plan. This involves coordinating all elements including event logistics, communication materials, giveaways/prizes, etc., and recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling seasonal employees to support both external and internal events, coordinating with education and volunteer departments, to support program execution.
  • Securing cross-promotional marketing partnerships (e.g., sports, malls, etc.) and in-kind contributions. This involves identifying and pursuing potential partners as well as writing contracts to manage relationships; ensuring timely and accurate contract execution and fulfillment including tracking, measuring, reporting on results and submitting paperwork as needed; and acting as an account executive, managing partnerships and fulfillment as needed.
  • Supporting the Society's tourism efforts, including overseeing print projects and tourism-related advertising, in collaboration with the Manager, Social Media. This also includes acting as the Chicago Zoological Society representative on key tourism committees (e.g., Oak Park Convention and Visitors' Bureau) as assigned.
  • Supporting the Manager, Social Media in managing Web marketing programs, including website and social media activities.
  • Overseeing the development and production process of marketing and events print materials, from writing copy through design, production, and distribution of publications. This includes: 1) composing creative, impactful, and targeted marketing and copy for the general market (i.e., media/press releases and listings) and for in-park guests (i.e., signage, gate handouts/ publications, events calendar, coupons, etc.); 2) working with Creative Services staff, and vendors as appropriate, managing process and budget and ensuring timely delivery to marketplace; 3) overseeing and ensuring timely distribution of materials. Also includes proving input for other publications as assigned (e.g., zoo map, Gateways, marketing brochures, etc.).
  • Working with other departments to create marketing plans and materials, including coupon programs, information packages, school newsletter program, and events. Developing communication and promotion plans and strategies and flawlessly executing finished plans.


Position Requirements and Specifications
The requirements for this position include the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field or equivalent combination of training and/or experience required.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant marketing experience or otherwise directly relevant experience required.
  • Strong communications and creative writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills required. Knowledge of a variety of software applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Windows XP, required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a warm, amiable personality. Ability to interact well and maintain positive relationships with internal departments, outside vendors, suppliers, media, and others.
  • Incumbent must be persistent, helpful, and able to deal with multiple issues at one time.
  • Solid analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Incumbent must be self-motivated, flexible, and confident, possess a high level of energy, and enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
The preferred qualifications include:
  • Valid driver's license desired.
  • Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
Additional information: Position requires the ability to participate in off-site events as needed and work occasional flexible hours, including weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
