OB Technician

The OB Technician works in collaboration with the Registered Nurse as a partner in care, treatment and education of patients. Provides basic nursing care to patients in a team environment under the direct supervision of the nurse, performs as a scrub tech for all surgical procedures performed in the Mother/Baby unit, and provides clerical support as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Participates in the admission/discharge/transfer process of all patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse.
  2. Provides general patient care duties that are specific to the patient population served.
  3. Performs tasks related to meeting the nutritional needs of the patient and maintaining the integrity of patient standards and efficient unit operations.
  4. Ensures accurate maintenance of the patient's medical record, maintains adequate supply quantities in patient rooms, transports patients, draws blood, and brings specimens to the laboratory.
  5. Prepares scrub/procedure room with adequate supplies and equipment, uses proper technique in gowning and gloving Physician/Clinical Nurse Midwife, and surgical assistants.
  6. Drapes patients in preparation for surgery, assists the surgeon by providing instruments, sutures, sponges, dressing, and other required supplies, and assists the Registered Nurse in counting sponges, instruments, needles, and in applying dressings.
  7. Cleans the procedure room before and after the surgical procedure, assists in maintaining the cleanliness of equipment and cabinets, stores or disposes placentas, and washes and wraps instruments for sterilization.
  8. Answers call lights, assists RN's in the delivery room, logs refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily, and enters patient information into the system.

High School Diploma or equivalent required
