Job Title: Director, Greater Chicago Midwest Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (GCM HERC)  

Reports to: Central HERC Executive Director      

FLSA Status: Exempt       

Job hours: 20 hours per week (Eligible for partial employer paid health, dental, vision benefits)

The Greater Chicago Midwest Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (GCM HERC) enables Chicagoland higher educational institutions to recruit and retain the most excellent and diverse workforce. We also assist dual-career couples in finding jobs within a commutable distance.  Currently, over 25 colleges, universities, and research institutions benefit from GCM HERC’s resources and tools.

The GCM HERC Director is a key member of the HERC team and is responsible for maintaining and expanding HERC by working with other regional directors and Central HERC staff to facilitate up-to-date information resources, technologies, and a professional network to help member institutions with recruitment and retention.

Under the direction of the Central HERC Director, the GCM HERC Director will develop processes and practices to maintain and expand the GCM HERC and provide significant program leadership to constituent member institutions and their employees.

The GCM HERC Director is an exempt position. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time in order to complete key assignments and related tasks on schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing and Development

  • Develop and implement a proactive campaign for new member development and member retention.
  • Nurture memberships via effective communications strategies.
  • Promote HERC brand through a collaborative process involving HERC’s stakeholder groups including: the Central HERC Executive Director, other regional HERC Directors, HERC’s Advisory Board, the GCM HERC Advisory Council, higher education jobseekers, and other key constituents. 
  • Devise and implement models for additional sustainable funding streams.
  • Research and form regional organizational partnerships that contribute to HERC’s mission. 

Technology

  • Experience with website technologies, specifically Content Management Systems (CMS). 

Curriculum/Program Design and Evaluation

  • Design and produce professional development programming for member institutions including conference and e-learning opportunities.
  • Devise and execute a plan for rigorous evaluation of program reach, impact, and member satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate program records.

Project Management

  • Facilitate, track, and report membership dues collection.
  • Track and report budget expenditures.
  • Respond to current and prospective member inquiries and be available for associate member and partnership development to organizations with similar missions.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Twice yearly travel to national Advisory Board meetings.
  • Prioritize and attend regional conferences to reach diverse jobseekers.
  • May be assigned other related duties.
  • Prepare budget status reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree and at least five years of project management experience, including financial, operational, technology and marketing responsibilities. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Familiarity with the Greater Chicago Midwest region. 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a persuasive and influential communicator and/or public speaker. 
  • Available for weekly in-person meetings with central HERC advisor in Lemont, IL. 
  • Available for bi-monthly video conference meetings with Central HERC Executive Director.
  • Superior interpersonal and diplomacy skills to manage diverse stakeholder needs. 
  • Able to collaborate effectively within a complex organization while accomplishing self-directed goals in a timely manner. 
  • Comfortable with technology and familiar with MS Office Suite, Cloud Based document storage, and database management. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working in higher education.

Organizational Relationships

The incumbent will meet weekly with a representative from Argonne Laboratory, a founding institution of the GCM HERC. The Central HERC Executive Director is the supervisor of the GCM HERC Director.

      SALARY:

Starting salary is $33,000 (20 hours/week), depending on experience.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit at a computer for at least four hours.
  • Ability to speak clearly on the phone and in person.
  • Ability to occasionally lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to travel by air.

       WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a telecommuting position that is flexible both in terms of work schedule and work location.

The candidate must live within a commutable distance of Lemont, IL, and have the ability to meet in person with Argonne National Laboratory’s Gender Diversity Specialist at a minimum of once per week.
