JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
Northern Illinois Food Bank is seeking a technology and process driven Financial Accounting Manager to provide leadership in the financial accounting and reporting processes.  This position will provide expertise and leadership in creating and improving accounting processes and utilizing technology in the most effective manner to support organizational needs. 

Essential Functions

  1. Manage team of 2 Accountants responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets and contribution accounting.
  2. Manage general ledger and monthly close process, including preparation of monthly financial statements, monthly journal entries, account reconciliations and accruals.
  3. Oversee and prepare budgeting and monthly reporting for government-funded programs.
  4. Oversee annual financial audit process and prepare audit information for areas of responsibility.
  5. Prepare annual audit-format financial statements, Statement of Federal Expenditures and 990 reporting package. Prepare information for annual letter to agencies of federal awards.
  6. Reconcile contributions in general ledger to donor database reports. Review and post gift-in-kind donations to general ledger and reconcile gift card inventory.
  7. Oversee payroll processing, payroll taxes and submit bi-weekly payroll upon approval.
  8. Manage inventory accounting processes, including subledger reconciliations and inventory valuation. Work with inventory team to reconcile and post annual physical inventory results. Work with inventory team to improve inventory processes.
  9. Prepare monthly bank, investment account and 401k account reconciliations and quarterly petty cash reconciliation.
  10. Oversee review of contracts for entire organization. Maintain central file of contracts.
  11. Support budget process by preparing budget financial statements, consolidating department budget statements, preparing balance sheet budget and uploading final budget to general ledger.

 

Skills, Education, & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Five plus years of experience in Accounting and/or Finance with some experience in inventory accounting required. Experience in fund or non-profit accounting is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel Skills and proficiency in Power Point, Word, and Microsoft office.  Candidates will be required to take an advanced Excel Skills test.
  • Excellent analytical skills and advanced skills in turning data into relevant and useful information based on understanding of the organization and its operations
  • Technologically savvy and process driven

  • Shows leadership and initiative in taking on new projects and improving business processes.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teamwork, working cross-functionally across and at different levels in the organization. 

 

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machine.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and position self on a stool as necessary.
