Since Brookfield Zoo opened its doors to the public in 1934, the Chicago Zoological Society has had a legacy of educating the public about animal care and conservation of the natural world. The Society inspires and engages children, students, teachers, and others among the general public to make a positive impact on the natural world around them. The coordination of photography services and photographically documenting images for a wide variety of needs throughout the institution, including but not limited to donor visits, animal care, and events contributes to build awareness about CZS leadership in animal care, education, research and conservation.

The Senior Illustrator (Temporary) produces illustration and three-dimensional work in a variety of styles and media that appropriately communicates information about animals, the natural world, and conservation to facilitate an exceptional guest experience. This will be accomplished according to specifications established with clients and project designers. The Senior Illustrator will design and illustrate banners, signs, and other graphics that communicate to educate, raise funds, or enhance the recreational potential of the zoo. And, will assist other illustrators and the designers in meeting their goals by consulting on accuracy of animal renderings and use of materials and color, and by maintaining reference files.

Position Requirements and Specifications
As Brookfield Zoo is open 365 days a year, this position highly prefers flexible availability to work any 5 days out of any 7 days each week; this position generally requires flexible availability to work non-standard hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends. This is a temporary position. Starting wage: $16.75 per hour.

The requirements for this position include:

• Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
• Minimum of 6 years experience as an illustrator, working with live subjects, required.
• Ability to render animals in a variety of styles and media required.
• Must have the ability to work independently and in teams.
• Ability to organize large, complex projects, and to develop and monitor schedules and budgets required.
• Must have the ability to work non-standard hours such as evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for special events, covering the daily schedule, or to complete work during busy periods.
• Valid driver's license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.
• Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
