Volunteer Coordinator

Northern Illinois Food Bank provides nutritious food to all those in need through our own efforts and those of our nearly 800 partner agencies in the following 13 counties - Boone, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will and Winnebago. NIFB acquires, gathers, handles, and distributes approximately three million pounds of donated, government, and purchased food each month through local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth activity centers and other food assistance sites. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
To support Northern Illinois Food Bank’s volunteer team and its related requirements including the recruitment, tracking, scheduling, reporting, and nurturing of volunteers.  Coordinate among all Northern Illinois Food Bank locations the work with court-compelled individuals.  Manage volunteer data through volunteer software system. Provide any other administrative and clerical support for the volunteer program.  

Essential Functions

  1. Oversee handling of basic volunteer e-mail, telephone, and other inquiries
  2. Manage volunteer profiles and schedules through volunteer software system
  3. Maintain volunteer schedules
  4. Handle interviewing, scheduling, tracking and reporting of court-compelled individuals
  5. Represent Northern Illinois Food Bank as a polished spokesperson when necessary
  6. Assist with greeting, orientation, and touring of volunteer individuals and groups
  7. Contribute to general resource development activities as needed
  8. Develop, maintain, and lead hunger education activities for youth
  9. Other duties as assigned
  10. Must be able to work some evenings and three Saturdays per month
  11. Travel and work remotely at Food Bank Centers

  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service while multi-tasking
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to comfortably and effectively present to groups of as few as two or three and up to 150.
  • Must be able to make a fundraising ask to constituents
  • Past experience working with databases such as CiviCore and Raisers Edge is a plus
  • Proficient with various computer programs including: Word, Excel, Power Point

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machine.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and position self on a stool as necessary.
