HR Manager

As one of the largest CPA firms in the Chicago metropolitan area, Wolf & Company LLP offers a complete and full range of accounting, tax, and consulting services to our diversified client base that requires tax research, compliance, planning and consultation.

The Human Resources (HR) Manager works in collaboration with the office's leadership and others to execute the firm's HR strategies and lead the office's administrative operations. Involving and equipping others to contribute positively to HR and office operational efforts is a fundamental objective of an HR manager. Occasional regional travel is anticipated.

Responsible for managing with the daily operations of the human resources department including performing specific duties in training and development, employee relations, organizational development, benefits and compensation.

The HR Manager is a liaison between the human resources department, finance and accounting department and other departments throughout the organization providing a customer focused and effective human resource support service to the organization to achieve the organization goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the items listed below. Other duties may be assigned as necessary by the supervisor.
 

  • Enhance employee relations and employee engagement through onboarding of new employees, internal communications, community involvement, and employment risk management.
  • Champion and facilitate coaching and performance success initiatives.
  • Manage office's recruiting activities.
  • Manage continuing education enrollment.
  • Interpret, assist and advise company employees about benefit administration and leave management.
  • Maintain, control and secure confidential records such as personnel recruitment records.
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive conversations about organizational changes and employee relations.
  • Manage orientation for new hires, including employee benefits and salary records.
  • Monitor procedures for performance appraisals and professional licensing.
  • Manage employee recognition activities and awards.
  • Work with management on internal issues and inquiries and supply information to job applicants, employees, and department heads.
  • Address any no tolerance issues that may arise in the correct fashion.
  • Address dress code issues.

  • Maintains confidentiality of firm and customer information, without exception, internally and externally at all times
  • Adheres to firm policies and procedures governing the safety and security of all firm employees, property, and assets
  • Responsible for complying with all related state and federal laws and regulations, and firm policies and procedures applicable to the position

Education
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business or related field.

Experience
Four or more years of related experience; professional service environment experience, a plus. Experience includes general knowledge of various employment laws and practices and some experience in the administration of benefits and other HR programs preferred.

Certification
Certification as a PHR or SPHR certification preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
The position of Human Resources Manager must have exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required to respond to inquiries or complaints from and/or effectively present information to Partners, senior management, employees, clients, regulatory agencies, members of the business community, and the Governing Board of Directors.

Length of day is unpredictable; long hours, including Saturdays, Sundays, and/or holidays, may be required to accommodate peak periods, and meet deadlines.

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of employment laws and best practices or ability to gain this knowledge quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to quickly learn firm policies, procedures, infrastructure and service lines
  • High degree of initiative; ability to think proactively and problem-solve
  • Excellent project management, decision-making, writing and oral communication skills
  • A positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, provide effective feedback, and coach
  • Ability to confidently and comfortably deliver presentations and speak in front of large groups
  • Flexible to respond professionally to emerging issues and situations

    NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
    The Human Resources manager should have advanced experience, knowledge, and training in Human Resources, and related state and federal laws and regulations, and other firm policies and procedures. He or she must have well-developed interpersonal skills to deal with Partners, senior management, employees, and clients on matters of a confidential or sensitive nature and the ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations. He or she must treat people with respect, keep commitments, inspire the trust of others, work ethically and with integrity, uphold firm values, and accept responsibility for own actions. The Human Resources Manager must have excellent organizational and time management skills to ensure maximum productivity. He or she must be adept at working on multiple concurrent tasks, with constant interruptions, and have the ability to work with no supervision while performing duties. The ability to work as a team player is required.
