Telecom Project Manager

Responsibilities

This Project Management position is responsible for planning, coordinating and managing medium and large scale network projects in a multi-department, multi-vendor infrastructure. These projects may include market integrations, switch/cell integrations and build outs, antenna modifications, deployments, and others.
  • Responsible for driving momentum and managing large-scale engineering projects using Project Management tools (e.g., MS Project) to ensure objectives are met in a timely manner, within overall budget.
  • Work closely with a variety of groups both within and outside the Network Teams (including RF Design, Cell, Switch & Data Engineering, Transport, Real Estate, Operations, System Performance, Inventory, Translations, Technical Support, Headquarters and Area Planning).
  • Align deliverable timelines while mitigating scope creep and schedule slippages
  • Create and facilitate accurate and appropriate communications for all stakeholders
  • Maintain Master Site Plan
  • Identify and Eliminate Process Gaps
  • Foster communication and collaboration of cross functional teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working with a broad range of management, departments and individual personalities.
  • Maintain high performance level under varying degrees of pressure and uncertainty.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly project status reporting for all managed projects.
  • Track and report construction in progress (CIP) forecast dollars
  • Manage internal and external vendors to meet targeted network milestones and integration dates.
  • Support corporate initiatives for engineering and ensure adherence to network engineering standards.
  • Coordinate and lead regular project meetings to keep the team abreast of (as well as track) overall status, changes, issues, risks and major milestones.
  • Establish contingency plans as needed throughout the duration of all projects.
  • Coordinate Lessons Learned post-mortem discussions to document and improve efficiencies of similar projects going forward.



Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree is required, along with five or more years technical experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry. Project Management background preferred.
  • Excellent Project Management skills and experience (PMP Certification preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Project Management Institute (PMI) processes
  • Knowledge of wireless network architecture preferred, to include hardware knowledge and experience of Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson LTE infrastructure, Voicemail platforms and Cisco / Juniper Routers.
  • Solid understanding of telecommunications industry standards preferred, functions and platforms such as: Ethernet backhaul, Microwave, Multiplexer and Transport equipment, Industry Regulatory requirements, cellular hardware and connectivity.
  • Persuasive Communication Skills - Communicates effectively verbally and in writing (in a clear and concise manner). Applies appropriate grammar and listens attentively. Presents ideas in a logical, compelling manner in both small and large group settings. Courteous, while persistent, in sharing and collecting information.
  • Knowledge of budgeting techniques, principals, and practices in public or private organizations
  • Strong understanding of budgeting process for cellular deployment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong Decision-making and leadership abilities (especially as it pertains to providing direction to teams that do not directly report to you). Appropriately use all available information and data.
  • A Positive 'Can Do' attitude. Must work efficiently with limited guidance / daily supervision.
  • Must be flexible, willing to learn, comfortable with change, and able to work with a high volume of projects
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
  • Must have a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Must be a team player. Excellent interpersonal skills are mandatory (including the ability to interact with technical & non-technical teams). Displays a high level of involvement and commitment towards team's success.

  • Ability to maintain various projects, priorities, budgets, and schedules
  • High proficiency in lateral and vertical reporting
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong practical knowledge of Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft SharePoint
  • Knowledge of Verizon Wireless processes and tools preferred. (i.e. Network Flow / Siterra, XNG / Granite, etc)
  • Flexibility with work hours and occasional traveling including overnight stays
