Contracts and Sales Attorney

Responsibilities

Verizon Enterprise Solutions is looking for an experienced contracts and sales attorney to be responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating business-to-business service agreements for our large and sophisticated Transportation, Distribution and Manufacturing commercial accounts, and to support legal review of complex enterprise sales agreements. We are looking for a talented attorney with initiative and drive who can handle a high volume of varied and complex legal work. The attorney must be able to understand the effect of law and regulation on our business and provide strategic legal advice to enable revenue generation while minimizing commercial and compliance risk. This position reports to an Assistant General Counsel.

The attorney is expected to fulfill a variety of functions including the following:
  • Counsel B2B sales clients concerning legal and business matters arising from service agreements among Verizon Enterprise Solutions, its affiliates and their customers.
  • Review, draft and negotiate numerous complex contracts simultaneously, including service agreements, nondisclosure agreements, statements of work and ancillary legal documents.
  • Ensure that all transactions are legally sound and comply with all Verizon policies and practices and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations, including telecommunications, data privacy and data security laws and regulations.
  • Provide legal analysis and counsel for complex enterprise sales bids.
  • Support the Legal Department with ongoing and special initiatives, including process improvement, and template development and training.

Maintain excellent working relationships with clients, affiliate business and legal personnel, internal approval groups and customers, and ensure that the clients' legal needs are fully satisfied.

Qualifications
  • Education: J.D. with excellent academic performance from a top tier law school.
  • Licenses: Active and in good standing with a state bar or eligible for limited In-House Counsel Licensure.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant and recent legal practice experience in a similar work environment (i.e., law firm or corporate legal department) with focus on commercial contracts review, drafting and negotiations, and development of proposals, supporting distribution, sales or procurement clients. Knowledge of telecommunications industry and Data Privacy Law are very helpful.
  • Ability to rapidly assess potential risks, benefits and consequences and effectively counsel clients concerning legal and business risks in sales transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple internal and external groups simultaneously to quickly achieve common goals.
  • Well-honed project management and organizational skills needed to closely manage multiple transactions and complex deals and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with all levels of personnel and enforce legal requirements without alienating clients.
  • Proven ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of appropriate solutions.
  • Independent initiative to develop, lead and implement special projects that enhance inter-affiliate and business-to-business processes.
  • Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Requires a modest amount of travel.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, MS Office, etc.).
