Construction Engineer III

Responsibilities

Manage construction from initial site design through completed drawings including drawing review taking into account civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical feasibility; value engineering, zoning, Phase 1/2 environmental, certification, signoff, and change orders.

Manages construction activities related to the development of multiple, simultaneous Network infrastructure projects including; RFQ or RFP process, Contract process, Sealed bid , Distributing bid packages, Coordinating bid walk, Awarding project, Monitoring progress, Providing regular status updates, Resolve issues.

Work closely with all engineering groups in the Network team including Project Management, RF Design, Transport, Real Estate, Construction, Operations, and System Performance.

Effectively manage vendors and consultants. Work with vendors to obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure their products and services meet Verizon Wireless' requirements.

Provide full financial management of all projects from initial proposal/bid through receipt of final product or service including; funding projects, budget tracking, processing purchase orders, reviewing work, and ensuring payment and final balance in purchasing software.

Manage outside vendors and contractors to effectively meet shipping and installation commitments. Request authorization for funds and write purchase orders using the PeopleSoft Purchasing system and manage procurement and inventory activities with the CATS system.

Ensure departmental compliance with company procurement and equipment installation policies. Provide team leadership and guidance by practicing Core Values including: creating and evaluating ways to gain financial efficiencies; creating process improvements; securing assets; and being accountable for vendor payments.

Evaluates ways to save money; challenges the ways things are done when there may be a better way to perform ones responsibilities; deals with peers and vendors with respect; exhibits the utmost integrity especially when in a position working with vendors and is responsible for payment of the vendors; and is accountable for ones actions.

Provide the necessary direction for individual/team growth and development. Demonstrates professionalism by responding to emails promptly, actively participating in meetings, ability to explain issues clearly, providing updates, maintaining records, working with other departments, and understanding the impact of their job to the overall business.

Establish quality assurance methods, procedures, standards, and technical training related to site design and construction.

Evaluate new products, services, and vendors. Weigh the pros and cons, including impact to the system, costs, compatibility, and ease of use, reliability, and timing parameters.

Ensure compliance and awareness of construction safety procedures internally and externally. Interface with internal and external departments as well as regulatory agencies by interacting with municipal agencies in the pursuit of building permits and construction inspections.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in wireless telecommunications industry, specific to cell site maintenance, construction and/or project management.
  • Detailed knowledge of cell RF, electrical and mechanical design, including equipment configuration, TELCO interface, DC power systems, lightning protection and grounding and HVAC. Close attention to detail is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of RF materials (jumpers, antennas, diplexers, RRH, cable, PIM, sweep tests) and Ericsson equipment preferred. Develop the skills and ability to represent the company as a subject matter expert if needed.
  • Construction Management skills including: AutoCAD/design review, implementation, HVAC, emergency generators, National Electrical Code requirements, environmental requirements including hazardous material, spill prevention, and other regulatory guidelines, general building maintenance, vendor maintenance and project management and financial management.
  • Power experience including: DC power systems, AC, AC UPS systems, and corresponding distribution systems.
  • Proficient in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Access.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, written and spoken communication and project management skills.
