Solutions Architect

Responsibilities

Solutions Architect - Transmission Access Technology

This position is a second level engineering position specializing in out-of-the-ordinary access solutions providing support to first level solutions teams. This SA will be responsible for creating or refining access solutions for clients with complex access requirements. The complexity of these designs are driven by unique combinations of high bandwidth requirements, demanding operational requirements, diversity and resilience requirements, difficult to reach location requirements, security and privacy requirements, and other requirements on a design-by-design basis.

The SA will need to understand and use the transmissions technologies used for access solutions, including, but not limited to, SONET, Ethernet, DWDM, TDM, and Fiber Optics. The SA will need to be able to analyze the economic impacts of building access or leasing access and other factors while managing the profitability of solutions. The SA must be able to work with internal engineering, pricing, product marketing, sales, and solution architect groups, outside transmission system providers, and equipment vendors to provide cost effective solutions for customers while maintaining profitability for Verizon.

The SA will need to be comfortable working with, presenting to, and negotiating with management and executive level personnel within Verizon and in vendor organizations. The ability to quickly understand requirements, develop solutions, and concisely explain them is critical to the SA's success.

Functional Responsibilities:

Serve as an engineering, technical and business process expert across the global solutions portfolio of Verizon Enterprise solutions to customer senior level IT and business executives.
  • Review and analyze current technology infrastructure and its ability to support strategic corporate objectives
  • Manage opportunities with a P&L perspective. Develop deal economic awareness and ensure delivery of cost and price optimized access solutions.
  • Identify and propose specific strategies, initiatives and remedies necessary to align technology infrastructure with corporate objectives
  • Support development of business drivers, business case, and high level program implementation plan
  • Translate customer business issues/opportunities into technical solution/business requirements
  • Develop conceptual solution architecture using combination of Verizon standard products and third party suppliers to produce end to end customer solution
  • Build and communicate the value proposition of the end to end solution to client executive
  • Partner with specific product specialists to identify and collect detailed technical requirements
  • Partner with bid management organization to build out detailed RFP responses and contract development
  • Coordinate efforts across Verizon support/product specialist organizations to ensure overall integrity and consistency of final proposed solution
  • Work with the account teams as the lead subject matter expert to develop solutions and recommend Verizon services to meet customer's business requirements.
  • Base understanding in network design and convergence, including routing/switching, cloud, mobility, and M2M with focus on security, resiliency, availability, and latency
  • Possess strong presentation skills, with the ability to develop and deliver technical presentations with customers and to tailor content to audience as appropriate - to include ROI/TCO and the demonstration of financial value.
  • Share knowledge and experience to enhance the technical capabilities of peers and build prospective opportunities
  • Possess solid understanding of the competitive landscape and ability to articulate the technical differentiation and value proposition of Verizon solutions


Qualifications

Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • 5+ years in development and implementation of IT and/or managed telecommunications solutions or
  • 5+ years strong project management skills with accountability for end to end delivery or
  • 3-5+ years architecture experience in conceptualization, definition and development of IT and/or telecom based products and service with verifiable instances of implementing one or more of the following:
    • Data and IP Services (MPLS, VoIP, VPN, IP PBX)
    • Managed Network Services (LAN, WAN, CDN, Managed IP PBX)
    • Managed Security Solutions
    • Data Center Outsourcing (application hosting, managed storage)
    • Call Center Technologies (ACD, IVR, Customer Portal)
    • IT Applications Management (SOA, Web Services)
  • 3-5 years in customer facing positions (sales, sales engineering, consulting)
  • BA or BS (preferably in Engineering or Computer Science) or equivalent experience

  • Current and valid industry certifications.
    • Examples:
      • Cisco Career Certifications or Equivalent Work Experience, CCDA/CCNA, CCNP/CCDP, CCVP
      • Microsoft, Tandberg, Polycom
      • CISSP
      • TOGAFv9, ITIL

    Desired Skills and Experience:
    • Experience in sales or service of Fortune 500 companies
    • Successful project delivery in a Fortune 500 company
    • "Big 4" consulting experience
    • Masters in engineering, computer science and/or business administration
