Network Data Engineer

Responsibilities

The regional Network Data Engineer will play a lead role in the planning and design of the KSMO LTE and 3G Core and Access networking infrastructures. The selected candidate will oversee all engineering aspects of new technology implementation and the overall design of the data network. This individual will provide regular status updates to Regional, HQ, and Area personnel regarding project, elements, and markets that they responsibility over.

The data engineer will act as a direct liaison and work closely with HQ/Area and the KSMO regional Engineering and Operations groups to assist with complex troubleshooting, system monitoring, and the development of detailed network design plans. The individual will work with vendors and suppliers to create detailed MOPs and ensure equipment design and integration meets VZW standards and also meets the capacity and growth needs of the region.

The regional data engineer will have market assignments in which their responsibilities will be to work with the Regional Operational, Engineering teams, as well as various vendors for any required changes, upgrades and capacity needs. The candidate will be responsible for verifying and ensuring that regional designs adhere to the current VZW engineering standards and that any design concerns are communicated to the Area/HQ teams in a timely manner. Individual will work with regional XNG SME to implement network standards and best practices. The person will also manage the associated capital budget, including purchasing, receipt and in-service CIP timelines.

Qualifications
  • BS in Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • CCNA/CCNP Certification preferred, but in depth knowledge with IP architecture and routing required.
  • 4-6 years' experience in wireless operations/engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of all OTN/EDN/WDN/WVN core data network components and connectivity principles.
  • Strong experience with IP routing and subnets
  • Complete understanding of IP inter-networking and routing, including RIP, OSPF, BGP, and L2TP.
  • Complete understanding of inter-network WAN protocols, including ATM, Frame Relay, SMDS, PPP, and MPLS.
  • Strong understanding of network security design and practices.
  • Working knowledge of router access lists and layer 3 security designs.
  • Working knowledge with PGW, MME, SGW and PDSN operation and engineering practices.
  • Troubleshooting experience with network analysis tools and protocol analysis (such as eHealth).
  • Knowledge of MSC components and peripheral hardware in an ALU, Ericsson, and Motorola environment.
  • Knowledge of equipment integration practices within a telecommunications environment.
  • Working experience with technical writing and documentation.
