Systems Engineer-Storage Specialist

This position is responsible for designing, configuring, installing, troubleshooting and repairing network and systems infrastructure solutions. In addition, this position includes engineering solutions for IT projects as well as providing network, server, virtualization and storage administration for department and enterprise activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide operational management and support for complex IT infrastructures, serving as primary engineering contact on some projects.

Administer Microsoft Servers running SQL Server 2000, Windows Server 2000/2003, Lotus Notes and Citrix Metaframe XP.

Manage, support and maintain Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory, services including: File/print, Citrix/Terminal Services. Install and troubleshoot new servers, network equipment and workstation software and hardware.

Identify and resolve network and related system performance problems.

Perform troubleshooting activities on production servers off-hours (nights or weekends) if required to minimize impact to operations. Perform hardware upgrades and installations.

Establish backup and recovery procedures for network based systems.

Plan, schedule, initiate, and administer backups and restores, as well as monitor the performance, success, or failure of these tasks.

Actively participate in planning, coordinating, and implementing Windows operating systems and applications.

Work with IT management to maintain, document and train on best practices configurations for Windows environments.

Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations for the purchase of products and services.
Collaborate with IT Management and other staff in capacity planning and future storage requirements.

Analyze storage equipment performance, collect information, identify trends and prepare summary and capacity planning reports.

Monitor and troubleshoot storage device status.

Respond to and resolve storage access and retrieval issues.

Research and make recommendations on storage best practices, services and standards.

Create required reports in response to IT management and business user needs.

Interface with external vendors as necessary, and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; equivalent experience acceptable.

MCSE, CCA and CCNA certifications preferred.

Minimum 3 years of experience with server, network, storage and virtualization, implementation and troubleshooting.

Computer networking knowledge and experience in computer network architecture and implementation including network operating systems, network storage design, and directory services required.

Network infrastructure knowledge and experience in LAN/WAN infrastructure technologies and implementation strategies required.

Network infrastructure administration: (Cisco routers, switches and VPN concentrators, Palo Alto Firewall Content Filters, WUG - What's up Gold, Microsoft Systems Center).

Strong Microsoft Windows experience including system design, implementation and management.

Must possess excellent time management skills.

Hands-on experience in a help desk environment is preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills, critical thinking and problem solving or troubleshooting skills. Ability to relay technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.

Ability to travel to branch premises on an as-needed basis.

Typical schedule is Monday through Friday with the ability to participate in a shift rotation of approximately 1 Saturday a month.
