Point of Service Representative - Lab Information & Processing

General Summary of Position Responsibility:

This position performs check-in/check-out functions at point of service areas. Greets patients and families on arrival to clinic area. Reviews registration information and collects co-payments. Forwards information to practice plans and hospital departments.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Greets and performs check in of patients/families for appointments. Directs patients to Central Registration to update insurance information. Informs clinic staff when patient is ready and informs families of waiting times and assists families as needed.
  2. Reviews registration information; modifies demographic information in system. Makes copies of insurance cards. Collects co-payments and enters information into system. Captures or confirms consent information. Prints forms and labels for clinic use.
  3. Requests appropriate referral forms; modifies pre-authorization data. Assists families in obtaining appropriate referral forms/authorizations for any additional appointments scheduled for the same day of service.
  4. Schedules tests or appointments in Cadence systems as needed and ensures patient has appropriate requisition.
  5. Completes check-out procedures; prepares required forms for distribution. Completes required end-of-session audits. Schedules returns and ancillary appointments.
  6. Distributes information to practice plans and other departments at end of clinic.
  7. POS representatives with CNA experience: may be asked to room patients, take vital signs, and other related CNA functions, as dictated by the needs of the clinic to which they are assigned to cover.
  8. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

High school diploma required.

Minimum two years experience in reception in a clinic or physician office environment. Knowledge of medical terminology, third party billing, and managed care requirements.

Proficient computer skills and aptitude.

Excellent communication/listening skills. Substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other allied health and medical center personnel.

Problem solving ability and able to handle multiple priorities. Ability to handle stressful situations.
