Practice Manager - Orthopaedics

General Summary of Position Responsibility:

Oversees the daily functions and provides general management the clinical back office operations. Supervises and manages staff in division office and/or other hospital locations. Works with multidisciplinary team of physicians and staff to maintain an environment that encourages customer service and promotes employee satisfaction.

Essential Funcations:

  1. Manages the day-to-day operation of the clinical back office services. This includes supervision of non-clinical staff, effective management of workflow and paper flow processes, selection and retention of new/ existing staff, and the supervision of research grant and proposal preparation activities to ensure timely completion and submission.
  2. Acts as a contact person and liaison for the Division to its patients and families, physicians, the Hospital and the appropriate economic unit of the Faculty Practice Plan concerning issues relative to clinical operations.
  3. Maintains the Division’s database(s) and scheduling templates according to established clinical standards.
  4. Promotes a customer service orientation through appropriate education and management of academic services and clinical back office staff.
  5. Participates in the development of budgets and financial analyses, and monitors and approves expenditures within established limits identified by the appropriate Administrator.
  6. Provides monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports as required by the Hospital, the physician’s economic unit and the Faculty Practice Plan.
  7. Oversees and manages quality improvement activities and customer service initiatives related to Academic Services and the clinical back office.
  8. Assures that proper educational opportunities are identified and attended by staff in order to implement changes in the work environment and comply with performance standards. Ensures that staff comply JCAHO standards.
  9. Manages Academic Services and clinical back office staff in accordance with CMH personnel policies and procedures, including selection, orientation, performance evaluation, corrective action and termination.
  10. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum of three to five years of supervisory experience in a healthcare environment.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational courses and leadership experience in a physician group practice or healthcare environment.

Excellent leadership skills, ability to work with a team, excellent oral and written communication skills, good analytical ability, excellent organizational skills, understanding of financial budgets and reports, knowledge of hospital information systems.
