Orthotist

General Summary of Position Responsibility:

In conjunction with appropriate medical professionals, evaluates for orthotic needs. The orthotist should be able to independently provide or supervise the provision of comprehensive orthotic care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. The position actively supports the Hospital's and the department's Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals, through modeling of appropriate behavior and by providing a work environment conducive to attaining these goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Perform a comprehensive assessment of the patient to obtain an understanding of patient's orthotic needs. Create a comprehensive orthotic treatment plan to meet the needs and goals of the patient. Perform the necessary procedures to deliver the appropriate orthotic services, including fabrication. Provide continuing patient care and periodic evaluation to assure/maintain/document optimal fit and function of the orthosis.
  2. Develop, implement, and/or monitor policies and procedures regarding human resource management, physical environment management, business/financial management, and organizational management Assists director in planning for expanded product lines.
  3. Completes documentation and billing in a timely fashion using SOAP format. Contributes to the supervising and training of all levels of new staff. Provides in-service education to staff.
  4. Secures written orders for all orthotic treatment. Serves as a resource/consultant to both Hospital and community. Adheres to safety issues.
  5. Acts as a resource person for clinical staff and supportive staff. Complies with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with scheduling, billing, discharge and medical record procedures. Shows an understanding of billing, insurance, and reimbursement issues/requirements. Participates in maintaining work area and equipment in appropriately clean, safe order. Completes required and core competencies in a timely manner.
  6. Ability to address conflicts in an appropriate manner, working towards the best interest of the patient/family and department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited orthotics program. Licensure and/or certification as an orthotist.

Two years experience in related area, pediatrics experience preferred. Ability to lift five to 120 pounds. Ability to effectively communicate with Hospital/department staff and patients, parents, and community therapists
