Director, Procedural Care

General Summary of Position Responsibility:

Facilitates, promotes and models a leadership philosophy and style which drives the vision of CMH. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients in regards to their growth and development processes. Supports the Hospital's and department's Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service goals through modeling of appropriate behavior, and by providing a work environment conducive to attaining these goals.

Area Specific Job Accountabilities:

Facilitates and leads assigned group functions. Answers questions regarding bills, charges. Assures appropriate documentation/procedures are in place for reimbursement. Coordinates and implements all cost studies. Participates in projects, suggests projects. Ensures that all staff are educated regarding CQI, quality measurement, improvement plan. Reviews Patient satisfaction Information reports, responds to issues identified.

Assures that there is 24-hour accountability within area of responsibility and during hours of operation. Rounds on all areas. Maintains safe environment: fire electrical, occupational.

Participates in the operational planning process. Develops charges for new procedures (managed care packages/clinical pathways). Monitors CQI process/teams.

Assures compliance with regulatory agencies. Evaluates and revises staffing pattern and skill mix (global). Provides back-up coverage for levels above and below.

Resource to all staff, students, physicians. Coordination of policy and procedures development and revision. Sets unit goals and drives process for achievement. Accountable for the achievement of the strategic outcomes for areas of responsibility.

Develops and implements systems to ensure information flow. Evaluates and plans for department's IS needs. IS systems management reporting and troubleshooting.

Identifies opportunities for and develops interdependent teams. Works with CS manager to evaluate inventory level/improve quality (exchange carts). Team Building: Education, communication, design. Participates in and maintains team process. Coordinates and develops processes to address all functions which support patient care; e.g., Admitting, Central Supply, Patient Relations, Purchasing. Collaborates with physicians to meet their individual staffing, equipment and supply needs. Collaborates with Director of Pre/Post Procedural Care, and leadership team to ensure patient safety, and efficient operations of surgical service areas.

Accountable for financial management within areas of responsibility. Formulates, implements, monitors (operating and capital). Reviews and approves (as appropriate) all new equipment/supply requests. Evaluates product/equipment selection and utilization in all areas for savings, quality.

Leads and manages people resources. Payroll audit. Attendance monitoring.

Interviews, hires, fires, with input from clinical managers. Provides disciplinary action/counseling regarding job expectations. Promotes professional development/education/conferences (ongoing). Scheduling of in-services and staff meetings (ongoing). Attends in-services and conferences. Mandatory Yearly Review (MYR): Monitors/enforces (Clinical Educator coordinates process). Performance appraisals.

Facilitates collaborative partnerships with physicians to ensure that the needs of patients are met.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Masters Degree with a concentration in Business, Health Care Administration or Nursing Administration. Either Masters or Bachelors in Nursing required.

The ability to establish a high level of credibility and effective working relationships at all levels in an academic medical center or teaching hospital environment.

A Registered Nurse with a minimum of five years of progressive surgical services management experience in academic medical centers or complex teaching hospital environments or tertiary referral centers.

A problem-solver who is willing to take the initiative in effecting change as well as the ability to manage change.

A team player who develops effective organizational relationships in complex environments.

Should be a process owner/work engineer who designs processes which are evolutionary in nature. A coach who is able to develop people to their fullest potential. A motivator who creates an environment where people get the job done.
