Database Specialist - Foundation
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Information Services, the Database Specialist installs, implements, maintains, and supports database software and application and reporting processes for the enterprise. This position provides ongoing support of packaged software systems, database design, and technical services to users, administers database system operational processes, prepares reports, and maintains documentation related to database solutions. This position requires the individual to have an understanding of all relevant database technologies used at the Foundation, and to assume responsibility for the successful completion of complex project tasks. The Database Specialist is also expected to perform with minimal supervision and to perform the technical and project mentoring and development of other staff involved in database support.
The Database Specialist will also develop and maintain a complete understanding of donor management systems and data. Responsible for proactively creating and providing fundraising and metric reports, and working with staff to identify, develop and implement new reports and reporting methods. Analyze data to determine how to better support the initiatives of the Foundation and manage the report generation process working in conjunction with the relevant departments. Evaluate data systems to identify areas of improved data integrity and usage.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develops and manages databases for clinical and business applications, including but not limited, to Raiser's Edge, Crystal Reports, and the reporting data warehouse.
- Proactively engage with Foundation staff to develop relevant reports and processes to meet business needs.
- Performs quality reviews on all database processes and technologies.
- Mentors and develops the technical and project skill sets of other database support staff as assigned.
- Participates in project tasks related to database services as required, meeting all project deadlines and deliverables.
- Manage database technologies for Epic, Microsoft SQL, and Crystal Reports as assigned. Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Creation and maintenance of database tables and structures, including performance and capacity measurements and planning.
- Manages the Crystal Reports environment.
- Support the import or extraction of downstream application data, ad-hoc user database requests, or reporting needs.
- Work with reporting, export, and interface analysts, or other reporting resources on report development as required.
- Work with system administrators on the installation and maintenance of all system components related to database technologies.
- Automation of database process around starting, stopping, and restart of database processes.
- Create reports and automate error detection and alert processes that will be utilized in the on-going operation of the database systems.
- Develops and documents procedures covering all aspects of enterprise-wide database administration.
- Acts as a backup resource to other database staff as assigned.
- Assumes on-call responsibility for database operations.
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Requirements:
Master level skills in one or more relevant database technologies; including but not limited to Microsoft SQL, Access, Excel, Crystal Reports Server.
Programming or scripting skills necessary to assist in database server and management tasks and integration. This would include Windows shell scripting and database vendor specific tools as appropriate.
Familiarity with Epic applications and processes is desired.
Certification/Licensure/Registration: certification in specific database technologies is highly desired.
A Bachelor's Degree in information systems or a directly related field or equivalent work experience is required.
3+ years of experience in a complex healthcare enterprise applications environment, working with advanced skills with at least one of the database technologies in use at CMH.
Experience in information systems within a health care provider organization is desired.
Analytical and proactive thinking for effective problem determination and the ability to work independently, make decisions under pressure, while providing timely and responsive services are the keys to this position.
Excellent time and project management skills, customer service and interpersonal skills, system diagnostic and communication (written and oral) are critical for success in this position.
