General Summary of Position Responsibility:
This position is responsible for the development and updating of procedure/charge-level cost studies, and for maintaining the costing portion of the Hospital's and Professional billing decision support database.
Essential Job Functions:
Develops and maintains the costing databases. Updates EPSi with the Trial Balance report, the Payroll Distribution report, the Asset Detail report, and the Overhead Allocation Statistics.
Updates the system with new cost centers, new expense/revenue accounts, new capital equipment, and review/update definitions periodically. (Full Time Position)
Carries out cost studies by meeting with the department director who develops the annual budget. Educates leaders about the costing process.
Reviews department's patient charges and identifies job positions and expenses as fixed or variable. Matches capital equipment and job positions to patient charges based on the 80-20 rule.
Develops relative value unit (RVU) level cost per patient charge with the guidance of the department director for each of the following cost categories: salary, capital, and medical supplies.
Provides assistance to the Business Analyst position on their business plans for new physicians as needed.
- Provides assistance to Third Party Reimbursement team by providing EPSi reports as needed.
- Participates as a member of the Product Valuation Committee and responsible for completing the cost benefit analysis on new products.
- Maintains the share-point site, drafts the minutes, drafts the monthly agenda, and updates the status of current products under review.
- Assists in projects as requested related to Third Party Reimbursement and to costing issues.
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required. CPA or MBA preferred.
At least 5yrs of direct experience in cost accounting
Proficiency in all cost portions of the EPSI or similiar decision support system
Advanced computing and spreadsheet skills and Access database
Must be self directed in developing new knowledge skills
