Anesthesia Technician

The anesthesia technician provides technical and clinical support to the anesthesia team. Actively supports the Hospital and department’s quality goals and service excellence principles.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Consults OR schedule to determine supply and equipment needs.

2. Prepares and provides support for all anesthesia related equipment and supplies in all anesthetic areas (Main OR, Cardiac Cath lab, Interventional Radiology, MRI, CT and Procedure Suites). Includes, but is not limited to anesthesia machines ( e.g. Drager 2B and Drager GS), anesthesia monitors (e.g. Datex Ohmeda and Philips), drug infusion pumps and infusions, -blood infusion equipment (e.g. Belmont FMS, Level 1), fluid warming equipment (e.g. Gaymar, Hot Line), intubation equipment including fiberoptic bronchoscopes, gas cylinders, lab testing equipment (e.g. I-stat and Hemocue), ultrasound equipment, IV/central line/arterial line set-up.

3. Assists anesthesia attending with preparing patient for procedure. This includes, but is not limited to the placement of monitoring equipment (e.g. ECG leads, BP cuff, Pulse Oximeter probe), placement of IV, arterial and central lines, fiberoptic intubation.

4. Assists with movement of equipment and supplies to support room turn over and readiness.

5. Maintains immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures.

6. Troubleshoots equipment and works with Biomedical Engineering and Clinical Manager to resolve the issue.

7. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Completion of an associate degree program with heavy science background and/or 2 or more years anesthesia technician experience required. Bachelor of Science preferred. Foreign medical degree accepted with review of credentials.

ASATT certification preferred. Required to obtain national certification within 1 year of employment. Basic Life Support Certification required. ALS preferred.

Acquire and/or maintain certification by obtaining annual continuing education requirements

Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure in a stressful environment

Ability to demonstrate knowledge relating to anesthesia procedures in order to effectively anticipate the needs of the anesthesiologist

Ability to set priorities and respond appropriately

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other members of the health care team

Ability to clearly communicate in English, read, write see and hear to perform essential duties
