Investment Technology Project Manager (Senior Technical Consultant):
The Project Manager has oversight of all aspects of a technology project plan for the introduction or enhancement of software products used to support the Investment business units.
The position requires the ability to estimate, plan, and ensure the successful execution of all phases of the project and to effectively communicate project status to all levels of the organization.
The Project Manager identifies resource needs and negotiates their acquisition. Issues and risks that may impact project success are anticipated and viable mitigation strategies are developed. Actions are taken to meet commitments, drive toward results while preserving quality and in accordance with department standards.
The responsibilities of the Project Manager (Senior Technical Consulant) include but are not limited to:
- Determines project/program approach, directs scoping and advises others, manages budget. Negotiates competing business and technical drivers
- Ensures development of most effective work plan with timeline and resources.
- Independently plans medium to large sized projects/programs or pursuits of greater complexity, typically across teams or areas that may span more then one year.
- Demonstrates ability to forecast complex and dependent resource costs for large, long-term projects/programs.
- Addresses the effect of time periods on estimates, (i.e. holidays, competing workloads - year end reporting, personal commitments, etc.)
- Is proficient in the use of project management tools.
- Merges historical experiences into estimates, including the track records of project team members.
- Competently handles multiple projects or programs composed of multiple interrelated projects simultaneously, continuously re-estimating time and costs.
- Manages project according to plan, coordinates work between project teams and departments, measures, monitors, and reports progress at defined points to ensure the project/program is delivered on time and within budget.
- Reviews management progress of all projects within the program.
- Coordinates work across areas, business units, and other organizations external to Investments . Develops and delivers aggregate measures and progress reports to business and executives.
- Resolves conflicts, competing demands and overall program changes while informing or consulting clients and executives as appropriate.
- Modifies tasks, sequencing, and resourcing as appropriate to maintain progress.
- Assumes primary accountability for the project/program and its total delivery.
- Manages budget for all internal resource, capital, and other project/program costs and resolves any issues during the course of the project/program.
- Manages development of very large project and program risk plans. Develops and oversees risk and issue management processes for all projects/programs.
- Assigns and ensures responsibility for tracking and resolution of project risks and issues.
- Resolves difficult or complex risks and issues or escalates to executives and clients as appropriate.
- Manages communications with clients and executives to achieve resolution and agreement by all parties.
- Prioritizes risks and issues as necessary.
- Uses appropriate authority to make decisions on which strategies to pursue related to risk mitigation.
- Oversees development of risk mitigation strategy and reviews with client(s) and executives.
- Documents and tracks resolution of program issues. Resolves and escalates issues as appropriate.
Qualification
Qualifications / Required Skills: (skills individual must bring to the job):
- Able to manage multiple initiatives at the same time
- Skilled in developing project plan documentation, tracking progress to plan, and creative in meeting commitments while maintaining standards
- Able to compile, evaluate and synthesize complex data into useful information
- Outstanding written and oral skills, including presentations
- Understands projects within the business context and able to identify potential stakeholders
- Quickly engages business partners, project team members, and other interested parties into the project process
- Able to foster a sense of teamwork, leverages differences, and facilitates the effective interaction and contribution of others to achieve goals
- Communicates effectively by ensuring that effective, timely, and accurate messages are delivered to the appropriate audiences, and that others have the information and understanding needed to be successful
- Deftly handle shifts in priority and demands of the business
- Confident and resourceful in filling information gaps; self-starter Manage the project process to deliver high quality products in accordance with the agreed upon budget and time commitment
- Seeks and utilizes relevant knowledge to identify and recommend the best solutions for clients/users
Education and Professional Background:
- 8+ years managing technology projects of varying size including large complex initiatives (20+ staff, $500K+ budget, 5000+ hours desired)
- College degree in MIS, Finance or related fields preferred Certification (PMP or other) desirable
- Technology Industry experience e.g. Data Warehousing or accounting systems
- Accounting or Finance or Investment background essential
- Capital Markets experience strongly preferred
- Proficient in MS Project or other project tracking tool
- Familiarity with software development lifecycles, RUP, Agile methodologies and practical experience in their use
