Investment Technology Project Manager (Technical Consultant):
The Project Manager has oversight of all aspects of a technology project plan for the introduction or enhancement of software products used to support the Investment business units.
The position requires the ability to estimate, plan, and ensure the successful execution of all phases of the project and to effectively communicate project status to all levels of the organization.
The Project Manager identifies resource needs and negotiates their acquisition. Issues and risks that may impact project success are anticipated and viable mitigation strategies are developed. Actions are taken to meet commitments, drive toward results while preserving quality and in accordance with department standards.
The responsibilities of the Project Manager include but are not limited to:
- Manage the project process to deliver high quality products in accordance with the agreed upon budget and time commitment
- Analyze project progress to plan and take necessary actions to maintain commitments to the business partners
- Obtain information necessary to create realistic and attainable estimates of time, cost and resources, revising as project experience dictates
- Create and execute project work plans and associated documentation according to an established methodology; make plan revisions as appropriate to match changing project needs and requirements
- Engage the business partners in the project process; evaluate and express project goals and details within the business context
- Create effective communication vehicles to keep business partners, senior management and team members informed of project status, issues and risks
- Establish and maintain an effective scope change management process that appropriately assesses impact to project commitments
- Identify and acquire necessary project resources, make individual assignments and manage to completion
- Anticipate events that could adversely impact project success, develop mitigation strategies and continuously evaluate their effectiveness
- Adheres to department Quality Assurance practices
Qualification
Required Skills: (skills individual must bring to the job):
- Able to manage multiple initiatives at the same time
- Skilled in developing project plan documentation, tracking progress to plan, and creative in meeting commitments while maintaining standards
- Able to compile, evaluate and synthesize complex data into useful information
- Outstanding written and oral skills, including presentations
- Understands projects within the business context and able to identify potential stakeholders
- Quickly engages business partners, project team members, and other interested parties into the project process
- Able to foster a sense of teamwork, leverages differences, and facilitates the effective interaction and contribution of others to achieve goals
- Communicates effectively by ensuring that effective, timely, and accurate messages are delivered to the appropriate audiences, and that others have the information and understanding needed to be successful
- Deftly handle shifts in priority and demands of the business
- Confident and resourceful in filling information gaps; self-starter Manage the project process to deliver high quality products in accordance with the agreed upon budget and time commitment
- Seeks and utilizes relevant knowledge to identify and recommend the best solutions for clients/users
Education and Professional Background:
- 5+ years managing technology projects of varying size including large initiatives (10+ staff, $250K + budget, 2K - 10K hours desired)
- College degree in MIS, Finance or related fields preferred Certification (PMP or other) desirable
- Technology Industry experience e.g. Data Warehousing or accounting systems
- Accounting or Finance or Investment background essential
- Capital Markets experience strongly preferred
- Proficient in MS Project or other project tracking tool
- Familiarity with software development lifecycles, RUP, Agile methodologies and practical experience in their use
