Service Engineer Consultant

The Portal Execution Engineer will provide a stable, predictable, and scalable environment for the delivery of computing solutions for the Allstate Insurance Company.
This role includes providing technical stewardship of enterprise portal environments, support, problem determination, change management, release management, performance analysis, environment design and operation of large, complex Portal solutions leveraging IBM's Websphere Portal running on IBM's Websphere J2EE platform. The position requires the individual to be on-call to provide support during incidents.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Communicate with a wide range of client, application, architectural, and systems
  • Ensure conformance to established system architecture, methods, regulations, standards and practices and participate in their creation.
  • Participate in long range planning and ensure those plans are consistent with business objectives for resiliency, disaster tolerance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure effective implementation of application code aimed at ensuring efficient and highly available production applications.
  • Design and develop techniques for effective implementation and continual release management disciplines.
  • Improve documentation, templates and processes.
  • Analyze and problem solve complex technical issues with minimal supervision.
  • Work within a team environment while communicating well to a diverse set of colleagues.
  • Provide thought leadership in the planning, evaluation, design, development, implementation, operation, and control of large, complex portal solutions.
  • Ensure effective implementation of application code through patterns and practices aimed at ensuring efficient and highly available production applications.
  • Design and lead a holistic strategic effort to develop techniques for effective engineering design, implementation and continual release management disciplines around the operational use of portal at Allstate - measured by availability of the environment.

Qualification

The skills required are:
  • Advanced IBM Websphere Portal
  • Advanced IBM Websphere J2EE platform, ITCAMS, and TAM E-business
  • Intermediate experience with the Solaris Operating System from SUN Microsystems
  • Intermediate understanding of Oracle as a backend database solution
  • Intermediate understanding of Integration Technologies and Techniques - JMS,
  • Web Services
  • Strong desire for creativity and innovation
  • Strong technical leadership abilities.
  • Proven ability to maintain leading edge skills in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
  • Organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Expert knowledge and development of diagrams and methodologies using Microsoft Visio and PowerPoint applications.
  • Extensive project management skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply new technology concepts to a real working environment.
