PROJECT MANAGER - CONSULTANT
Experienced, Consultant-Level Opportunity
This PROJECT MANAGER - CONSULTANT position is an experienced, consultant-level role within Allstate Insurance. As Project Manager - Consultant, you will be responsible for managing overall pursuit and/or project delivery including scope, timelines, resources, budget, risks and issues, relationships and communication.
This position is based within our Protection Technology group-the largest of four Allstate IT centers that designs and deploys advanced technology for the #1 publicly traded property and casualty insurance carrier in the U.S.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Planning projects with greater complexity, longer duration and across multiple technology groups, independently and/or with teams.
  • Determining project approach, developing budget and work plan with timeline/resources, and making recommendations.
  • Managing project to ensure delivery is on-time and within budget.
  • Assigning resources to project activities, making staffing recommendations, defining team member roles, and setting expectations.
  • Setting project goals and objectives, guiding and supporting team members, and providing project performance feedback to managers.
  • Developing and managing project budget for all internal resources, capital and other costs; and, ensuring appropriate processes are in-place.
  • Identifying and assessing risks/issues, and developing mitigation strategies throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Building trustful relationships and communicating across teams, departments, business partners and users.
  • Developing and leveraging technical, functional and/or business knowledge to support client/user solutions.
  • Identifying and delivering the project communication plan using a variety of messaging vehicles based on audience and content.

Qualification

The successful candidate should exhibit the following skills and abilities:

  • Project Communications - Effectively transmits technical and business information to others, including non-technical audiences.
  • Scope Control and Change Management - Capable of delivering products/services with minimal productivity loss while accepting significant changes in environment, workload and/or re-structuring.
  • Project Planning - Demonstrates ability to break down work into manageable and measurable units, estimating time and costs appropriate to the stage of one or more large projects.
  • Project Quality Assurance - Knowledge, training and/or experience to demonstrate quality management techniques for large projects without requiring support and instruction.
  • Project Issues Management - Possesses the knowledge, training and experience to manage internal project issues without requiring support and instruction.
  • Project Estimating - Demonstrates ability to forecast complex resource costs for large, long-term projects that include costs external to immediate area.
  • Internal Consulting - Able to work independently or lead a consulting team to identify issues and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Project Control/Implementation - Implements and controls large projects.
Experience required (type and number of years)
  • 8+ years of project manager experience required
  • Experience in managing large complex projects.
  • Strong relationship building and team leadership skills.
  • Experience with matrixed organizations
  • Closely mentored other project managers within the organization
  • Prior Experience handling large scale multi-million dollar projects required
Computer proficiency
Microsoft Office Suite
Education
Bachelor's Degree preferred
PMP certification a plus
