Strategy Manager

The Strategy Manager is responsible for supporting the development of strategy and driving necessary changes in the organization. Assist in designing and directing projects that analyze strategic alternatives in depth so that opportunities, short and long term financial implications, risks and opportunities are well understood. Work across multiple functions and businesses to identify issues and assess financial and organizational impact. Assist in making recommendations and drive organizational alignment and decision making. Assist in reviewing existing strategies across all business lines to ensure alignment with overall Corporate and Protection strategy. Provide insights and perspective on key consumer, market, technology, and competitive trends that will impact current and future strategies. Responsible for direct reports including staffing, structure, required skills, training and career development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading the discovery, solution development and recommendation design for key strategic topics including framework development and prioritization
  • Develop and lead general business consulting efforts for various internal clients on a variety of projects and initiatives with a focus on project oversight, analytical, process and content support
  • Participate in the creation of senior management and Board communication presentations enabling effective communication of Business Unit-related strategies
  • Support ongoing business intelligence, competitive tracking and best practice efforts through fact-based analyses and management reports
  • Independently manage central portions of projects, identifying key issues and selecting appropriate analysis to solve defined problems
  • Communicate hypotheses, proposed analysis and findings to project team
  • Work closely with client team members in problem solving effort, actively managing client team members to develop actionable solutions
  • Support senior business leaders in executing recommended strategies
  • Assist in reviewing strategies across all business lines to ensure alignment with the overall Protection strategies
  • Provide analytical support for potential acquisitions, joint ventures, and divestiture opportunities

Qualification

Management consulting or equivalent corporate/business unit strategy experience enabling a high proficiency in:
  • Advanced strategic and decision making framework capabilities including hypothesis design, complex issue identification, problem solving approaches, decision frameworks; ability to design and lead complex strategy analysis
  • Advanced quantitative and analytical skills
  • Advanced ability to synthesize large amounts of complex data into meaningful conclusions and recommendations
  • Advanced ability to structure documents to effectively communicate with senior management and drive alignment and decision making
  • Advanced leadership skills with ability to partner with, inspire trust and influence, senior leadership team: ability to persuasively advocate a position and build momentum for change and action
  • Excellent presentation skills; dynamically (persuasively) presenting ideas to senior management
  • Advanced ability to master understanding of financial services/Property and Casualty consumer trends, industry/ competitive dynamics, and economics; ability synthesize marketplace insights from various sources to develop strategic direction operating priorities
  • Experience leading and managing cross-functional teams with direct line responsibility; exceptional project management skills
  • Advanced ability to manage multiple priorities given aggressive timelines; comfortable performing in a fast paced, dynamic and ambiguous business environment; manage both internal and external resources
  • Experience with strategic planning, change management, benchmarking, strategic consulting engagements, financial modeling and industry best practices
  • Advanced ability and experience with developing staff, particularly in the areas of strategy and leadership
  • Bachelors degree required, MBA preferred
  • 5+ years strategy/strategic planning/ consulting experience gained through experience with a major consultancy and/or corporation
