Occupational Health Nurse

General Summary of Position Responsibility:

Provides direct patient care to the staff, volunteers and contract employees on the main campus and satellite clinics of CMMC. Partners with infection control and safety and collaborates with managers and administrators to provide health assessments and wellness opportunities for workers. The position actively supports the Hospital's and the department's Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals, through modeling of appropriate behavior and by providing a work environment conducive to attaining these goals.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Performs basic nursing skills/tasks, including vital signs, immunizations, drug screens, first aid treatment within practice guidelines and patient transports as appropriate

2. Performs initial health history and assessment for new employees and those with an injury or illness at work

3. Coordinates and/or performs compliance screenings for DOT, hearing conservation, pulmonary function and fit test compliance

4. Assesses and follows employee exposure incidents

5. Completes the first report of injury for work-related incidents, sends to third party administrator, and enters employee accident and near/miss reports into computer database as directed

6. Performs liaison services to specific departments as requested including inservice on OHS related topics

7. Assists in department data entry of records and prepares reports and compiles reports on TB conversions quarterly

9. Participates in health promotion activities

10. Counsels employees on health and wellness opportunities and attends meetings with ancillary services as required

13. Presents the OHS portion of new employee orientation in collaboration with other OHS staff

14. Orders medical supplies for the department

15. Maintains department equipment in readiness for use

16. Participates in Hospital disaster plans as defined by disaster policy and procedure

Requirements

Requirements:

1. Able to assess and respond quickly to patient care situations

2. Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

3. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office products especially Word and Excel

4. Listening and communication skills to effectively work with a diverse population

5. Partners effectively in a team

6. Demonstrates the ability to learn quickly

7. Knowledgeable in Workers' Compensation law and case management, OSHA Regulations and Public Health requirements preferred

8. Licensed as a RN in the State of Illinois with one year occupational health experience preferred

9. Basic Life Support Certification required

10. Exemplifies the Human Resource department quality customer service statement

Age-Specific Competency Requirement:

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages served on the assigned unit/department, as indicated below:

All Ages Neonatal Pediatric Adolescent Adult

Working Conditions:

1. General out-patient clinic environment

2. Reasonable likelihood of regular exposure to occupational pathogens during the performance of assigned duties

3. Dexterity for intermittent use of computer and delivery of immunizations

4. light Duty by Department of Labor standards: Standing and walking for up to 6hr/day; lifting of not more than 20 lbs.; some pushing and pulling and variable sitting time; dexterity to use computer and to manipulate needles, syringes and vials; ability to grasp, hold and turn objects.

Hours: Monday-Friday 7a-3:30p (No weekends)

Full-time 1.0 FTE (40 hrs/week)
