Clinical Manager

Position Summary:

The Clinical Manager facilitates, promotes, and role models the philosophy and style consistent with the CMMC leadership statement. In particular, instills within the team the values as identified in the mission and vision statements. Responsible for all the facets of staff supervision in a functional area. Manages staff functions and coordinates the daily operations of the area of responsibility. Collaborates with hospital leadership to facilitate attainment of innovation, service excellence and teamwork. Responsible for staff development and individual performance planning and improvement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Accountable for the coordination of the team to provide quality service in the area of responsibility.
  • Maintains a work environment that encourages retention, development of the team, customer services and family-centered care by being a team role model.
  • Demonstrates practice-planning abilities to address and prevent potential problems.
  • Plans for an adequate number of scheduled team members to effectively provide high-quality patient care.
  • Develops, implements and monitors the effectiveness of the operational procedures in the area.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes through innovation, simplification, increased efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Facilitates meeting necessary standards to assure compliance with state and private regulatory agencies (IDPH, JCAHO, HCFA, OSHA).
  • Responsible for organizing and facilitating team meetings. Manages complex projects.
  • Participates in the interviewing and hiring process for respective area of responsibility. Utilizes a team approach to develop collaborative relationships within area of responsibility and across clusters to ensure compatibility of goals and objectives. Actively develops and supports liaison relationships with other teams, clusters and departments.
  • Promotes effective customer service. Ensures that quality service is provided through monitoring and evaluation of indicators. Assures that standards of practice are developed, understood, implemented and evaluated. Facilitates the Plan, Do, Check, Act (P.D.C.A.) methodology.
  • Encourages and participates in committees (may function as Quality Advisor). Promotes active communication among clusters, developing methods for consistent integration. Ensures adequate systems for the dissemination of information to area team. Facilitates communication and collaboration of the multidisciplinary team. Remains aware of changes occurring within the hospital and communicates pertinent information to team members as necessary.
  • Serves as a clinical resource person or clinical expert and role model. Performs clinical responsibilities appropriate for the position. Demonstrates ability to function as advocate, mentor and leader. Actively facilitates problem identification, avoidance and resolution. Stays current on emerging patient care technologies, treatments and protocols.
  • Oversees payroll functions including staff education and compliance, approval of overtime and/or incentive programs, and monitoring of bi-monthly payroll reports. Collaborates with the director and/or administrator to creatively develop, implement and monitor a fiscally sound budget for capital and operational resources and justify variance. Continuously monitors patient care needs based on acuity, census and unit activity to match staffing resources appropriately. Immediately sets into action contingency leadership practices, rapidly matching demands and resources in emergency/urgent situations involving patients, equipment or systems.
  • Facilitates the team process at the unit level to include performance evaluation. Identifies and communicates needs regarding staff development and individual performance improvement. Participates in one-on-one coaching and counseling of employees. Assists individuals in identifying professional goals and provides opportunities to meet those goals. Identifies essential resources for training and education. Collaborates with Clinical Educator to coordinate orientation and annual education for staff. Monitors employees understanding and adherence to CMH policies and procedures.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required. Master's preferred. Required licensure and/or certification: current licensure as a registered nurse qualified to practice in the State of Illinois.
  • Minimum experience required to perform the job: three to five years experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Must possess exceptional organization, communication, problem-solving and system improvement skills with the ability to coordinate, integrate complex processes and relationships in an evolving role while working with a diverse workforce.
  • Advances knowledge base through self-directed learning to maintain competency and advance in the leadership role.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills by assisting and encouraging the team to participate in identification of problems, formulation of plans, and initiation of corrective measures and follow-up to make certain suitable action is taken.

*Managerial experience preferred*
