Position Description
Provides subject matter expertise of import logistics, documentation, customs classification and compliance. Manages daily import operations while providing tactical and strategic support, analysis and reporting to Import Manager. Drives operational excellence and fosters environment for continuous process improvement.
. Optimize efficiency of GGS Logistics and Supply Chain by resolving import compliance issues.
. Work closely with Customs officials to request Binding Rulings, respond to requests for information (via Customs Form 28: Request for Information and Customs Form 29: Notice of Action) and to obtain guidance on port regulations.
. Minimize exposure to governmental penalties by ensuring company compliance with US Customs and Border Protection (CPB) and other government agencies' laws and regulations. This includes ensuring compliance with GGS Import Compliance Manual and records retention management.
. Serve as a liaison for brokers and suppliers to resolve import compliance issues and ensure shipments are delivered in a timely manner.
. Authenticate import documentation compliance through problem resolution and post-audits to proactively prohibit penalties for non compliance.
. Validate and distribute Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) classifications and Country of Origin certificates in order to decrease exposure to fines and penalties that can be incurred as a result of erroneous information. Confirm Landed Cost Tracking to avoid discrepancies in value of goods.
. Update Import Compliance Manual on an annual basis.
. Manage special projects for Import Manager and internal/external legal counsel relating to CPB and associated laws and regulations.
Position Requirements
. Bachelor's degree
. 3 - 5 years experience with logistics, freight forwarding, Customs brokerage, international trade documents, Harmonized Tariff Classification, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
. Proven ability to organize and prioritize rapidly changing and competing priorities.
. Good verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.
. High level of initiative, flexibility, organization and team orientation.
. Fluent with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and internet literacy.
. Experience with other US import regulatory agencies.
. Strong interpersonal skills.
. Knowledge of C-TPAT and CBP laws and regulations
. Project management skills
. Experience with industrial markets or manufacturing.
Position Attributes
. Directly responsible for resolving inbound operational issues, government compliance and continuous process improvements ensuring timely and cost effective delivery of products.
. Responsible for selection of domestic carriers, balancing service and cost.
