Community Outreach Coordinator

Position Summary:

Liaison with the Chicago African-American community and the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease Program at Children's Memorial Hospital to coordinate designated blood drives for children with sickle cell disease. To establish new blood drives and cultivate/foster existing relationships within the African-American community and the sickle cell program. To assist the American Red Cross in coordinating new and existing blood drives in the Chicagoland area.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify individuals within the Chicago area affected by Sickle Cell Disease and conduct general assessment of health care utilization and perceived need(s). Coordinate with Clinical Team/Researcher to attempt to meet perceived need.
  • Identify and collaborate with key individuals at community based organizations and businesses to participate and sponsor in new and ongoing blood drives to service specific population.
  • Develop marketing strategies to engage, capture and retain donors.
  • Develop outreach strategies for underserved/targeted population.
  • Maintain a Resource Library of information on congenital disorder for utilization by patients/families, health care providers and other interested parties.
  • Maintain computer database on all patients.
  • Assist treatment team members in follow-up of patients as needed.
  • Perform other duties as directed by faculty and administrative leadership.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.

2. Must communicate well with professionals and non-professionals and adapt readily to different levels of knowledge.

3. Must be sensitive to different and changing needs of health care providers and recipients.

4. Computer skills desirable. MS Office Suite, including MS Outlook.

5. Must be willing to travel and have a flexible schedule
