Director Environmental Health and Safety
Develop an integrated, comprehensive approach to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at the University. Drive the creation of an EHS culture that is proactively in compliance with regulations to protect IIT's workforce, students and nearby communities who are impacted by the University's work environment. The Director will conduct site safety audits and inspections, conduct accident investigations, identify and evaluate EHS risks and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risk and accident occurrence; and develop and deliver training programs to meet compliance requirements and promote EHS programs. Bachelors degree required or a Masters Degree preferred, in a scientific discipline related to Environmental Health and Safety, minimum 10 years experience with at least 3-5 in a leadership position in such roles as Safety Coordinator or Manager of EHS, or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
Experience in the various federal and state requirements especially OSHA, EPA, Home Land Security (Chemical Facility Anti Terrorism Standards, CFATS), Higher Education Opportunity Act and other City of Chicago filing and administrative requirements. Prior experience working with and leading the Environmental Health and Safety Committee (s). Demonstrated experience working in an influencing and partnering role within an organization. Experience working with leadership in the formulation of policy, strategy and strategic goal development and alignment.
