BUSINESS ANALYST - Intermediate Opportunity

As a Business Analyst - Professional, you will be responsible for applying business knowledge and communications skills to gather and create business and functional requirements.

This position will initially be based in the Allstate Technology - DMEA BA AOC.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Providing business knowledge and expertise in a focused area of the business by developing a keen understanding of business needs.
  • Partnering with business clients to gather and create business/functional requirements and application functionality.
  • Creating functional designs and leveraging basic technical skills to address relatively simple business processes, issues or single project requirements.
  • Assisting with project planning by either contributing or creating project definition documents for less complex projects.
  • Organizing and leading design review sessions for basic business requirements and issues resolution.
  • Contributing to detailed deliverables and obtaining requirements documents and functional designs sign-off.
  • Consulting on function test plan content for assigned applications/projects.
  • Assisting to gather and develop user and training documentation.

The successful candidate should exhibit the following skills and abilities:
  • Business Requirements Definition - Demonstrated knowledge of business requirements definition in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Able to analyze business requirements to determine processing flow, testing scenarios and user requirements.
  • Business Knowledge - Fundamental knowledge of the insurance industry and familiar with competitors.
  • Business Analysis - Ability to grasp and apply basic analysis concepts and break-down a problem to achieve conclusions.
  • Change Management - Working knowledge of technical tools to analyze changes, and skills to communicate with internal and external work partners.
  • Internal Consulting - Understands the basic role of an internal consultant in terms of client relationships and staff interactions.
  • Facilitation - Able to facilitate meetings and processes through either prior training or direct experiences.

Qualification

Demonstrated business domain knowledge with experience performing project work for the Direct / on-line / Agency channels, or Marketing / Sales organizations, or Call Centers.

-Intermediate Diagramming Skills

-Intermediate User Interaction Design a plus
Skill Level of Business Analysis - Demonstrates the ability to grasp and apply advanced analysis concepts to solving problems of a difficult nature. Designs screens and reports for advanced business systems. Can synthesize disparate and complex information, organizing it in a way which permits the development of effective and efficient databases and presentations. Displays soundness of decisions as reflected in results. Capable of identifying and verifying themes and patterns imbedded within quantitative data, in a set of user requirements, and/or in a problem situation; then drawing conclusions through rational judgment, and recommending solutions and approaches. Displays ingenuity and imagination in problem resolution. Able to eliminate subjective and emotional elements not critical to the problem when conducting analysis. Knows when a timely "guestimate" is preferable to more thorough analysis.
Skill Level of Business Requirements Definition: Demonstrates mastery of Business Requirements Definition in practical applications of a difficult nature. Able to identify potential problems through advanced analysis techniques and develop appropriate test cases to assure effective testing of the application. Can identify processing flaws in the business requirements from quality assurance and applications testing standpoints. Understands the general business purpose of the requirements and its role in the architecture of the organization. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering and analyzing Business Requirements Definitions without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while conducting Business Requirements Definitions.
Skill Level of Business Knowledge: Demonstrates the ability to apply multiple areas of business knowledge to successfully meet broad work objectives. Knowledgeable of the major business units of the company which relate to work responsibilities. Understands and monitors appropriate key business indicators as well as the competition. Able to communicate with users and customers regarding various business functions in an easily understood manner. Able to interpret and draw conclusions from business data. Demonstrates an understanding of overall business perspectives.
Skill Level of Internal Consulting: Interacted directly with clients in problem definition through implementation. Shows a genuine appreciation for underlying business issues. Successfully bridges the gap between the business need and the consulting tasks through communication, professionalism, knowledge and service. Able to coach facilitation by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
Skill Level of Change Management: Capable of achieving accurate results in the handling of challenging problems. Involved in establishing a structured methodology for responding to changes in the environment or establishing coping mechanisms for responding to changes in the workplace. Always displays a high degree of professionalism in dealing with customers and management. Makes sound recommendations in problem resolutions. Assists in testing and quality assuring solutions.
