The Conservation, Education and Training (CET) staff at Brookfield Zoo is continuing the tradition by incorporating an innovative learning strategy to create a variety of programs for students, parents, teachers, and other community conservationists. Some of these programs include Zoo Camp which provides opportunities for participants to explore and learn about what it takes to care for our resident animals while enjoying games, songs, and even helping out the keepers by making enrichment treats for animals. Sleepover Safaris may take advantage of exhibits being open late, learn how to make behavioral enrichments for animals and wake up the next morning to breakfast and morning hike to see their behavioral enrichment activities given to resident animals.

As the Camp Administrative Assistant, you will assist the Supervisor, Camp, Overnight, and Family Programs in preparations for Zoo Camps including: assisting with advance preparation of materials, monitoring camper check-in and check-out, arranging catered lunches, and handling all on site sales of shirts and lunches for program. Maintain and organize daily and overall the program supply inventory, including art supplies, t-shirts, program materials, etc. You will utilize your prior administrative experience in providing administrative support for Zoo Camp staff, including but not limited to: managing incoming calls, filing and copying as needed, distributing mail, faxing documents, collecting and processing biweekly time sheets, maintaining required computer databases, and other related administrative tasks.

Additionally, you will use your organization skills to process daily phone, written and in-person program registrations and question; send out program materials, confirmations, evaluations, and other communications during camp season; review, verify, and maintain an ongoing database of program purchases, refunds, revenues, and program statistics and post to designated worksheets. Furthermore, you will update program revenue worksheets per standard operating procedures and generate required reports in a timely manner to provide weekly, monthly, and yearly summaries. You will draw upon your strong customer service approach in maintaining open communication on a daily basis with parents and guardians of program participants regarding questions or concerns, extended day care, etc. You will also contribute to ensuring that Zoo Camp program meets American Camp Association standards in order to maintain accreditation status.

As Brookfield Zoo is open 365 days a year, this seasonal (temporary) position require flexible availability to work any five days out of seven days each week with work shifts that are generally from four to eight hours in length. The position also requires the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The starting wage for this position is $9.25 per hour.

The requirements for this position include:

· High school diploma or (GED) equivalent required.

· Two years administrative experience required, preferably in a service-oriented office environment. Previous experience in a non-profit organization a plus.

The Society inspires and engages children, students, teachers, and others among the general public to make a positive impact on the natural world around them. Starting in April 2013, Brookfield Zoo guests can take a trip back millions of years and experience Dinosaurs Alive! A fun and educational exhibit allowing Zoo guests to roam a winding trail with state-of-the-art life-size animatronic prehistoric creatures and a tented showcase will highlight the most recent paleontological findings that birds evolved from dinosaurs. In addition, guests will learn how dinosaurs are relevant to today's world and how changes in climate may have led to their extinction.

Dinosaurs Alive! is just one example of a temporary exhibit at which an Assistant Interpretive Exhibit Host would, under supervision, be responsible for engaging Zoo guests in celebrating animals and nature by interpreting animals and conducting activities for zoo guests in seasonal and temporary exhibits as assigned. Under supervision, the Assistant Interpretive Exhibit Host would be responsible for all non-animal related interpretive aspects of seasonal and temporary exhibits (i.e. sounds systems, functioning animatronics, and indentifying broken signage). This position is an important rung of the Career Ladder program which creates opportunities to inspire conservation leadership in diverse youth.

The Brookfield Zoo bird collection is focused on population sustainability and the continued development and improvement of avian husbandry standards. Being a northern institution where a large portion of our birds are housed indoors much of our collection is comprised of passerines. We maintain a large number of off exhibit breeding aviaries where we work with multiple pairs of many of the species housed at the Zoo. We have a strong presence in the AZA bird community, managing the SSP's for the blue-bellied roller, red-capped cardinal, blue-grey tanager, and superb starling as well as the studbook for the Humboldt penguin. We also have strong involvement in the ASAG (Avian Scientific Advisory Group) and the PACCT (Passeriformes, Apodiformes, Coliiformes, Caprimulgiformes and Trogoniformes) TAG.

The Associate Curator, Birds is responsible for assisting the Curator in the management of all on-site and off-site programs and operations of the bird collection in accordance with the Society's long-range plan, especially with respect to personnel, facilities, animals, and public programs. You will make use of your captive avian management experience while working closely and collaboratively with the Curatorial, Veterinary, and keeper staff at all levels to assure the health and well-being of the animal collection and the integration and coordination of information, plans, and activities with other areas to assure optimum care of the collection and achievement of Society goals and objectives. Utilizing your prior experience working with birds in a Zoo setting, you will assist the Curator in managing the daily operations of the Bird workgroup not limited to but including maintaining the exhibition program, overseeing acquisition and disposition of specimens, coordinating controlled breeding, overseeing behavioral enrichment and training programs, and ensuring established husbandry standards are met. You will communicate and implement the management plan for the bird collection and for the bird workgroup to include implementing departmental and area procedures and institutional policies and dissemination of departmental and institutional information including species selection, reproduction and contraception, and animal transactions. Working with the Curator, you will manage the collection to optimize the well-being of individuals and populations as well as genetic and demographic management and to meet exhibition/guest experience goals. The Conservation, Education and Training (CET) staff at Brookfield Zoo is continuing the tradition by incorporating an innovative learning strategy to create a variety of programs for students, parents, teachers, and other community conservationists. Some of these programs include Zoo Camp which provides opportunities for participants to explore and learn about what it takes to care for our resident animals while enjoying games, songs, and even helping out the keepers by making enrichment treats for animals. Sleepover Safaris may take advantage of exhibits being open late, learn how to make behavioral enrichments for animals and wake up the next morning to breakfast and morning hike to see their behavioral enrichment activities given to resident animals.

As part of the CET team, the Camp Counselor Assistant is responsible for providing this top-quality programming to participants creating memorable guest experiences and inspiring conservation leadership. You will make use of your prior experience working with children of different ages to assist Camp and Specialty Programs Counselors with the supervision of campers throughout the park during camp activities. You will assist in creating a memorable experience by engaging campers in games and activities that develop motor skills, socialization skills, and teach respect, responsibility, and good decision-making skills. You will demonstrate your positive attitude and be a positive role model as you assist the counselors with presentation of camp topics and themes by assisting with specimens and props and in the supervision of groups of children for bathroom breaks in accordance with American Camp Association requirements. Furthermore, you will assist in creating a fun and positive learning environment for participants by organizing all daily camp supplies for activities including arts and crafts and games.

Camp programs run from June through August. The work schedule for the Camp Counselor Assistant position is generally Monday through Friday, 7 hours per day. Schedules are based on the needs of the operation. Incumbent may be scheduled to work non-standard hours including evenings, holidays, overnights, and weekends.
