Classified Administrative Specialist (Full-Time) Community Development Dept. / Building Division The Village of Skokie is seeking qualified candidates for the position of full-time Administrative Specialist, supporting the Building Division of our Community Development Dept. This position performs general clerical work and other duties of routine difficulty. Schedules inspections for building permits, pre-sale inspections, and other inspections as necessary; Obtains and provides information regarding permits and the permit process, rental registration, Code enforcement cases, landlord training, and other Property Standards information; Files reports, inspections, re-inspections, letters, service requests, vehicle history records, billing documentation and various related data; Processes rental registrations and provides information to new landlords; Prepares documents for the Appearance Commission and communicates with applicants regarding such; Types various reports, form letters, and service requests; Compiles daily, weekly and monthly department statistics; Prepares documents for Freedom of Information Act requests; Answers telephones and directs callers (both internal and external) to appropriate individual or takes messages; Orders office supplies and other commodities; Performs other work-related duties as assigned. High School Diploma or equivalent required; One year of experience in general office work or building codes/code enforcement; Familiarity with municipal policies and procedures, building codes and permits, code violations and enforcement procedures preferred; Good knowledge of business English and basic arithmetic; Must have excellent organization skills and use discretionary judgement in dispensing information; Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite applications and use of general office equipment; Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and be able to work effectively and collaboratively with co-workers, colleagues, and the public; Ability to follow all safety rules of the Village.
